We’re excited to announce our newest Guiding Stars advisor: Registered Dietitian, Allison J. Stowell MS, RD, CDN!
As a Registered Dietitian, Allison enables individuals to make positive, sustainable changes in their eating habits by stressing conscious eating, improving relationships with food and offering a non-diet approach for reaching and maintaining ideal body weight.
She joins the Guiding Stars team to help people in a number of sectors (grocery, hospitals, schools and universities) to understand how to use the Guiding Stars nutrition navigation program to make healthier food choices.
She also runs a successful private practice with offices in Danbury, CT, Bedford Hills, NY and Mahopac, NY. Since 2007, Allison has also worked with the grocer, Hannaford Brothers Corporation, as a Nutrition Coordinator. She provides complementary nutrition classes and tours, community workshops and one-on-one shopping experiences at their Carmel, NY location.
Allison pioneered Educated Eating© a weight loss program developed to help women make healthy choices that get positive results and also co-developed a successful emotional eating and weight loss program. She has been cited numerous times as a nutritional expert in newspapers and magazines including Cosmo Girl and Women’s Health & Fitness Magazine.
Her tips on healthful eating can be found each week in the Putnam County Times and online at www.WhatandWhen4Kids.com, where she answers questions weekly in her column, “Ask Alli”. She is frequently asked to speak to groups of parents, teachers and adolescents throughout Westchester and Putnam Counties on nutrition education, weight loss and pediatric nutrition.
Allison is a member of the American Dietetic Association and the Professional Women of Putnam. She also serves on the Health Advisory Council for the Mahopac Central School District and the Putnam County Board of Directors for the American Heart Association.
Allison graduated cum laude from the University of New Hampshire, where she received a B.S. in Nutritional Science. She went on to complete her dietetic internship and was credentialed by the Commission on Dietetic Registration. While practicing as a Registered Dietitian, she completed her Masters of Science in Nutrition Education at Columbia University Teachers College.
Allison lives in Connecticut with her husband, two small children and her dog, Chase.
