Guiding Stars, the world’s first store-wide nutrition navigation system, today announces minor revisions to their evidence-based proprietary algorithm. The Scientific Advisory Panel reviewed the Guiding Stars algorithm and amended it to include the method of calculating debits for foods that are sweetened only with sugar alcohols. The minor change also factors in new key words for obscure variations of ingredients classified as added sugars or whole grains.

Guiding Stars, the world’s first storewide nutrition navigation program, announces a partnership with Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa to help patients, visitors and employees identify more nutritious food choices in the hospital. This partnership is another step in the hospital’s mission to improve the health of the people and communities it serves.
Guiding Stars will rate the nutritional quality of prepared meals, snacks and grab-and-go items in the medical center’s cafeterias as well as the food served to patients. With healthier eating a top priority for many Americans, Guiding Stars–the world’s first storewide nutrition guidance program–and Wellness Layers announced the public beta release of a new search engine called the “Food Finder.” This nutrition guidance tool is available on Guiding Stars’ website, and will allow shoppers to search more than 50,000 foods in the Guiding Stars database. With many consumers seeking easy ways to achieve a healthier lifestyle, Kings Super Markets implemented Guiding Stars, the world’s first store-wide nutrition guidance program in all 24 grocery stores located in New Jersey and Long Island, NY.
