You can use frozen or fresh cherries interchangeably in this recipe. If you want the chocolate to hold some chunk form instead of melting in to flavor the oatmeal evenly, heat the oatmeal for less time.
Tip: Give steel cut oats a try if that’s what you have on hand. They soak up the liquid more thoroughly, making for a thicker dish.
Ingredients
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1½ cup skim milk
- 1 cup cherries, halved
- ¼ cup walnuts, chopped
- ½ tsp. vanilla
- 2 oz. dark chocolate, chopped
